The latest buzz in anti-aging treatments is all about tweakments – small enhancements that make your skin glow without it looking obvious. Beauty expert Alice Hart-Davis breaks it down.
You may have noticed that tweakments are being mentioned more frequently in the news. These treatments are medical procedures that offer more noticeable results than a facial but are not as drastic as cosmetic surgery. Tweakments include Botox, fillers, skin peels, intense pulsed light, laser treatments, thread lifts, and more. They are usually non-invasive or minimally invasive and provide noticeable but temporary and subtle results, as long as you choose a qualified doctor.
I’ve written a book about these treatments called “The Tweakments Guide: Fresher Face” and launched a website, thetweakmentsguide.com, to explain these procedures and help people determine which might be right for them. This site also includes a register of top practitioners across the country. Many people are still confused about tweakments and what each procedure does, so I believe it’s important to discuss them openly and honestly.
When I began writing about cosmetic procedures around 20 years ago, people were very discreet about them. Tweakments were considered shocking back then. For instance, the idea of injecting poison to look younger was hard to stomach. However, opinions have changed, and the stigma around treatments like Botox and fillers has significantly reduced.
The types of procedures have also expanded over the years. Two decades ago, the options were limited to collagen injections and Botox. Now, we have a variety of treatments like laser facials, ultrasound skin tightening, microneedling, and even injectable moisturizers that promote genuine cellular regeneration and last for six months. A Mintel report showed that 43% of people are interested in trying a non-surgical cosmetic procedure, highlighting the growing curiosity about tweakments.
Initially, tweakments were seen as anti-aging solutions aimed at reducing frown lines with Botox or filling nose-to-mouth lines with fillers, targeting an older demographic. Today, fillers are used to enhance the features of people of all ages, from boosting young women’s lip shapes to creating balanced jawlines for men and women. Other treatments like Profhilo increase skin hydration, while ultrasound therapy offers a non-surgical facelift with subtle results.
Younger generations are more open about discussing and sharing results from these procedures, especially on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Additionally, the number of practitioners offering tweakments has increased, although the lack of regulation means that not all are properly trained or experienced. To find a reliable practitioner, you can refer to those listed on my website, as they are professionals I trust.
