The newest buzz in anti-ageing treatments is all about tweakments – subtle enhancements that give your skin a fresh glow without making you look overly done. Beauty expert Alice Hart-Davis breaks it down for us.
You might have noticed tweakments making headlines recently. They’re cosmetic procedures that deliver more noticeable results than a facial but don’t go as far as surgical interventions. Think along the lines of Botox, fillers, skin peels, intense pulsed light, laser treatments, thread lifts, and more. These treatments are usually non-invasive or minimally invasive, offering clear but temporary results that are subtle enough to be natural-looking, as long as you pick a skilled practitioner.
Alice Hart-Davis has covered these treatments extensively and even wrote a book about it, “The Tweakments Guide: Fresher Face”. She also created a website, thetweakmentsguide.com, to demystify these procedures, explain how they work, and help people decide if they’re right for them. The site also features a directory of top tweakment practitioners across the country. Alice believes that the more openly we talk about tweakments, the more people will understand and become comfortable with them.
Starting her career as a beauty journalist over 20 years ago, Alice recounts that back then, cosmetic procedures were quite hush-hush and even shocking to many. The idea of getting Botox or fillers was met with disbelief. Over time, however, attitudes have shifted, and the stigma around such treatments has lessened.
The range of available procedures has expanded significantly. While two decades ago, options were limited mainly to collagen injections and Botox, today’s offerings include laser facials, ultrasound skin tightening, microneedling, and injectable moisturiser gels that promote genuine skin regeneration and last for months.
A recent survey highlighted growing interest in these treatments, with 43 percent of respondents expressing a desire to try non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Initially aimed at reducing signs of aging such as frown lines and nasolabial folds, tweakments have now found a wider audience. Younger people increasingly use fillers to enhance lips and define cheeks, while others seek more balanced jawlines. Treatments like Profhilo boost skin hydration, and ultrasound therapy offers non-surgical facelifts with subtle results.
Alice notes that younger individuals today are more open about undergoing these treatments, often sharing their positive experiences on social media. However, with the growing number of practitioners, there’s also a risk due to lax regulations in the industry. Many providers may lack significant training and experience.
Alice’s website lists registered practitioners personally vetted by her, ensuring those interested in tweakments can find qualified and trusted experts easily.
